At the annual Worthersee meeting, aftermarket tuner Oettinger has unveiled its immensely powerful Volkswagen Golf R500. Taking inspiration from last year’s Golf R400 Concept but turning the wick up even further, Oettinger’s latest creation is proving a head-turner at the show.
Beneath the skin, the Oettinger Volkswagen Golf R500 features a 2.5-litre TFSI five-cylinder engine featuring a plethora of modifications over the standard engine. These include the installation of a new turbocharger as well as forged pistons and a revise ECU. Further tweaks consist of an upgraded air intake suspension, sports exhaust and improved cooling resulting in a total of 510 hp and 501 lb-ft of torque. When mated to an all-wheel drive system and a six-speed manual transmission, Oettinger claims that its Golf R500 will rocket to 100 km/h in a mere 3.4 seconds as well as a top speed exceeding 300 km/h. Rather incredibly, the tuner is also working on 600 hp, 650 hp and 750 hp versions of the Volkswagen Golf R.
Alongside the performance gains, the Oettinger Volkswagen Golf R400 includes new six-piston brake calipers as well as two-piece ventilated brake discs which measure 380 mm at the front. Additionally, sports-oriented brake pads are used while the vehicle’s wheelbase and track have also been marginally increased. Suspension is a 3-way coilover system from KW while 20×10 inch wheels are installed at all four corners with 275/25 tyres.

From a visual standpoint, the car includes an ultra-wide bodykit as well as a new front fascia incorporating larger air intakes and a new lower splitter. The rear-end is then characterised with its large dual roof-mounted rear wing and aggressive rear bumper and diffuser package.
Interestingly, the Oettinger Volkswagen Golf R500 isn’t a concept. It will be produced for customers in limited numbers at a price of around 150,000
